In the spring of 1978, Dr. Tom McInture was working at Melbourne High School,
teaching math, physical education, and coaching several sports. He next served as a
dean and assistant principal at Melbourne High School (1986-88). He returned to
Melbourne High School as principal from 1999-2003. McIntyre had served as Area I
Superintendent since 2003, responsible for the administration and supervision of 24
schools and more than 22,000 students in South Brevard.
Brevard Public Schools announced the
death of Area I Superintendent Tom
McIntyre.

The 56-year-old veteran educator
died Wednesday morning August 13th
at Holmes Regional Medical Center
after battling cancer.

“Words are inadequate to fully convey
the respect and admiration I have felt
for Tom,” said Superintendent Dr.
Richard A. DiPatri. “His
professionalism, his expertise, and
truly, his heart for children, made him
the consummate educator.”
In the Spring of 2006 the
Mel Hi Crew team named a
new four boat in his honor.
Dr. McIntyre has been
extremly supportive of the
sport over the years, and
has always been there to
